No, it’s not quite that bad. You have to have Windows *plus* a CD-ROM drive to install the software. I typed it as they did, however, so it is in fact ambiguous.
I think the system works by loading text documents in Internet Explorer. I can’t think of a worse way to distribute an e-book. It should run just fine on your laptop, however. I’m selling the CD, by the way, if you’re interested.

Nurgh. Ditto the excited anticipation of the CD. Ditto the Mac laptop. But I actually run a full version of Windows 2000 using Parallels on my Mac – for all intents and purposes, a “real Windows PC.” (I do this, by the way, so I can use the decent and free e-Sword bible software.)
So, there was hope. The installation chugged along, gave me all the right messages, required a Windows reboot (nurgh, Windows) and loaded a little server applet next to the clock. Rebooted. Tried again. Failed again. Uninstalled (not easy, by the way). Disabled antivirus software per instructions (what?!?). Reinstalled. Rebooted. Failed again. Rats. It doesn’t appear to work, even in a clean and well-maintained installation of Windows 2000.
Why oh why isn’t this simply a PDF file with copy protection built in? Or a standard ePub file? Or something useful??? Around my seminary (Duke Divinity School) at least half the students use Macs. Very bad choice, Abingdon.
I use a Mac these days because stuff designed for it generally works well and works the first time. I supported Windows PCs for a decade and was Microsoft Certified back in the day, and this has been just another reminder of the dark forces of copy protection and Windows ugliness. Sigh. When I get time I’ll call the tech support number and see if they have any miracles on tap.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The Adobe Reader DRM stuff is sometimes frustrating, but at least it works better than this. I had thought about installing Windows 7 through Parallels, but I don’t have any other reason to do so. I use the Anchor Bible Dictionary and other resources like The Context of Scripture through Accordance, and it works so wonderfully. Abingdon needs to get with the program, literally.
