I just received my Mythological Creatures stamp set from the UK Royal Mail Group. The issue date is 16 June 2009, and the set contains 6 stamps designed by Mr. McKean featuring classic British mythological creatures. On the reverse side is a collection of short stories, one for each stamp, written by Neil Gaiman. Here are some pictures I took for you:

I’m teaching a course on mythology in Neil Gaiman’s works this fall, and this will be a fun visual aid and conversation starter. Thanks Royal Mail! Cheerio!

A class on mythology in Neil Gaiman? I am quite jealous.
It’s part of our new Freshman Seminar program. We can teach pretty much what we want for the purpose of getting students into the vibe of the college classroom as well as doing some composition instruction.
I will definitely post about it as we go, but one thing I’m looking forward to is that I am requiring the audiobook versions of The Graveyard Book and Anansi boys instead of the printed text. I look forward to seeing how the medium influences students’ experience of the text.
